It's that time again

So tomorrow morning I'm off to Champaign (actually, I live in Urbana now) for school. The drive will be long and arduous, but I can handle it. I still have to burn a few more cds to make the trip more tolerable.

Got Madden 2004 a little while back (courtesy of Ram), and it rocks. It took me a while to learn how to play offense, but I still can't play D, so the average game score is 52-48. I'm looking to take the St. Louis all the way to the Super Bowl, and pick up an MVP award for either Faulk or Warner - they are both in the running at the moment.

Yesterday, CompUSA opened a new store in Frisco and they had some great giveaways - X-boxen, harddrives, digital cameras and whatnot. The store opened at 8 AM, but they were giving away vouchers starting at 6:30 AM. Akash and I decided to get there at 6:30 expecting to have our choice of vouchers. I was already deciding what games to get for the X-box. We actually get there at 6:30 and realize there are two lines forming on either side of the main entrance. Both of these lines wrapped around the building (a big building) and met up again at the front. Realizing our stupidity, we cut our losses and decided not to wait. We learned a valuable lesson - nerds want free stuff and are willing to wait a long time. Next time, we'll be there at 3:00 AM. Interesting note - we were back in the area at 9:00 AM and decided to go back and see if we could scavenge anything. There was still a line to get in. I can't comprehend.

Wait, is this an update?

Finally broke the cycle and went out and did something today. I went over to Heather's place to hang out with some high school friends. We came to some interesting conclusions concerning the Catholic church, President Bush, and other amusing topics - I'm too lazy to describe those conclusions, so you get pictures instead. As always, contact me if you want full-size pictures.

Off to Never, Never Land

No no, this has nothing to with that freak Michael Jackson. It has everything to do with the Metallica concert I went to last night with Hunter and Arun. I mentioned being potentially disappointed or having lower expectations or some other nonsense, but I can assure you now that this show was Metallica at their best. Old-school set, no cheesy stage theatrics other than pyro , and just a lot of energy. As usual the sound was great, which was a relief after hearing the boomy bass and non-existent vocals from the openers. As it was James's b-day, they destroyed him with pies and silly string during Sandman - lot of cool moments. I'm hope they come back to town soon.

I went early to see the Deftones and that was a bad decision. They needed to do a soundcheck or something. We couldn't tell what song was what and their bass was up too loud. Linkin Park put on an energetic show, but I don't know their material, and what I've heard before I'm not a big fan of. Limp Bizkit was the best of the openers - if only Fred would keep his mouth shut more and sing more songs instead of trying to work up the crowd. He must have wasted 15 mins wiith silly hurrahs. Their new guitarist (that guy from Snot) is pretty good - he was fun to watch.

So what's going on?

I've been watching a lot of movies recently since it is so easy to, uhh, "borrow" them. The best ones of late have been City of God and Gangs Of New York. The Hot Chick takes the award for crappiest movie in a long time.

Tomorrow is the day I get to see Metallica (again) - the excitement might not be the same from the concerts of the past, but I'm still going to enjoy seeing my favorite band. I think the reason for the reduced excitement is that I have already seen them on this tour (sorta) and it's hard to fight the expectation that they can't live up to that show. I'm sure I'll be blown away when the show actually starts, but it's hard to fight the comparison issue now.

Looks like classes are starting on the 27th, so I guess I'll be leaving on the weekend of the 23rd. That gives me exactly 3 more weeks to enjoy living the life of a bum. That just isn't long enough. I know I've already been doing this for over 2 months now, but I've gotten used to it and the thought of doing homework and projects, and grading even more homework and projects is just not appealing. Going back to Champaign also means that I will have no digital camera so I'll need to add more pics before that happens.

Down is a band that should put out another album but probably won't because they are too stupid to keep it together. I say this because I'm listening to them right now, and I realize I want another album, but probably won't get one.
