Yes, I rock

I won! So I'm going to see Metallica on the 19th at The Fillmore. This is as cool as a concert can get. I don't have a lot of time to actually see the rest of San Francisco as I'm getting in at 2:00 pm and leaving at 6:30 the next morning. But I've seen San Fran before - you can check those pics out here.

Yes, I like Metallica

Tomorrow I find out if I'm going to see Metallica in San Francisco at one of the Fillmore shows. Very excited.

Ram has put a page that collects everyone's latest blog entry (everyone meaning the people who are sharing hosting and using Moveable Type). Eventually, if (when) I move to Moveable Type, you will find my entries there as well. For now you can just stalk my friends.

I still can't get hbog.ramk.net to load this page, but it seems to work for everyone else. It's alright though because www.hbog.ramk.net is working for me. Eventually I'll add links to everyone's page, but right now I just don't want to. And you probably know them anyway.

Not complaining, just describing

Woohoo - I'm moving up in the world that is the Internet. A bunch of my friends (Keyur, Ram, Akash, Dan, Shlep, Jackson, Angry Mike) and I got hosting together, so now I have oodles of space. That's right, I said oodles. So now I can say sort of say goodbye to my ece.utexas.edu account. The only problem is that some DNS servers don't recognize hbog.ramk.net so that URL doesn't necessarily work for everyone (it doesn't for me). So for now, the new link to bookmark is http://cpanel13.gzo.com/~hbog/ or you can keep trying hbog.ramk.net or you can just stick with the old ece account URL. I'll set up my ece.utexas account to forward over. Eventually I'll setup hbog.net or something. Let's hope that all this is taken care of soon.

As today's classes are over, I only have 6 days left where I actually have to go to class. And then 3 finals. In between that I have 2 projects and the requisite papers and presentations that go along with them. It is sorta funny that both projects have become exercises in coding instead of teaching tools to help us learn the course material. Our group already sorta understands 3D Delaunay Triangulation, but what we are spending most of time with is coding stuff for geometry functions. And in Fault Tolerance, we already understand the logging/recovery procedures, but we are spending a lot time coding all the other stuff. So I dub thyself Code Monkey.

Write more riffs please

The dorm's movie channel has some good movies. And I would like to watch them. But I cannot. The channel has no sound. It hasn't had sound for a while. But they still show the movies at the regularly scheduled time. You would think someone would notice this problem and fix it.

Metallica is doing 4 free shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco in May. You can't buy tickets, but since I'm in the club, I have a good chance of winning them. To see the mighty Met in a small club would be a rare thing indeed.

If you are not listening to Kyuss, you should be. I just learned how to play Whitewater on guitar and I can' t stop playing it - those guys just knew how to write riffs. Dirge is the word for them.

And so it goes on

The program I use to record TV acts very funny. The first time (after booting) I attempt to record something, it records fine, but then it crashes right after the recording is done. If I try to record anything after this, it records the sound properly, but I can never get the video to show up. This is only solved by restarting Windows. Oh well, not really a big deal - as long as I can record MTV Icon with the greatest band in the world.

Projects are moving on nicely. Not too much stress right now, but I'm sure that the last week of classes will be oodles of fun. They've been showing Red Dragon on the movie channel, and every time I flip by it, I just have to watch. No matter how many times I've seen it (and no matter how recently), I'll still watch for at least a while. I'm a sucker for the violence.

Half Life 2 is officially coming out sometime this year. I will have to shun the outside world for at least a week when that comes out.

I hope that the Dream Theater/Queensr˙che tour stops in the Dallas area. I've missed both bands in the past, and I don't know how much longer they'll be around (unless they pull a Kiss or something).

This color scheme seems less obnoxious than the previous one. Hope you guys think so as well.

Crack dealin' on the net

Ram is truly a crack dealer. Ok, so he doesn't deal crack, but virtually everything else. He got me to sign up for buddyzoo and audioscrobbler, he was a key part of me switching to mozilla, and I'm sure they are things that I don't even know about that Ram is responsible for. So he tried to get me to sign up for Moveable Type by arguing that what I have here is a blog. I had to refer him to the warning on top of the page. He ignored this and went ahead and created the subdomain hbog.ramk.net , created an account, and actually converted one of these entries to show me how it would look. He's crazy. I didn't want to take away all his excitement, so instead of moving to MoveableType, hbog.ramk.net points to this page. Thanks Ram!

Happy Birthday Rashee - you too are old now! Okay not really, but you are older than me, so I get to make fun

Sometimes you wish you said more

I just finished grading another set of homework (yes, my Friday's are much more fun than your's). I realized that you can immediately tell when people work together, no matter what tricks they do to hide it. I mean it is just so freaking obvious, but I guess they are lucky because I don't really care. I mean, I can't really tell the difference between people cheating and people working together, so I just don't do anything about it. I myself have worked together/borrowed (just slightly) homework in the past, and none of my TA's have called me on it - I guess they were in the same boat that I'm in now.

Happy Birthday Sunanda - you are old now :)

It really isn't a blog

Regarding the warning above: This page is not a blog. I just happen to post every so often updating you on stuff. The main purpose of this page are all the pics (look to your left just a bit) and some other stuff (now look to your right). Please don't have any expectations otherwise - I know I sure don't.

Looks like I'm going to Vegas with a bunch of Austin people. It might be the last time that this group do such a spectacular thing. I might as well live the high life when I'm there (I'm setting aside at least ten dollars to gamble with - yeah buddy!) I'm sure I'll take pictures and I'm sure they'll eventually make it to this page.

It's currently 70 degrees outside, and there is no air conditioning (currently) and my computer is essentially a heater. Not really so bad though - I'm from Texas and India - there's no heat that's too hot for me.

All of this is wrong

Started making a few updates here are there. Removed the Music section and just added its content to the Concerts section. Also added a counter so that I can see who of you out there is stalking me. Was pretty busy this weekend with the aforementioned projects, but nothing that I couldn't handle (yeah, I know, I'm very strong, thanks). Ram has a new name now - its "Captain Greg Mantis" - everyone should start calling him that now.

An Explanation for narrowmindedness?

In a Rolling Stone article, Jack White had this to say about why he doesn't like rap that much, and it pretty much sums up why rap doesn't do it for me either- "A lot of hip-hop has broken music down. There are no instruments and no songwriting. So you're left with just storytelling and rhythm. And the storytelling can be so braggadocious, you're just left with rhythm. I don't find much emotion in that."

Been sorta busy over the past couple of days with a friend coming into town, a test, and some other stuff. As the days go by, and we all get closer to Metallica's new album, the excitement keeps growing. The suspense is killing me.

Laziness, Suckiness, Jobless

Yes, I admit to being a lazy bastard. I haven't updated in over a week. I haven't put up any new tabs, pics, or rants, and I haven't updated the concerts page either. I don't have any excuses or reasons other than laziness (and a little schoolwork, but mostly laziness). Rest assured that I will do all these things (or some of these things) before I die (or even if quicker possibly).

Last night Galen, Esther and I went to Legends to watch the UT-Syracuse game - yeah that sucked. It'll be no fun watching the championship game tomorrow night, but I probably will instead of studying. School is going to be somewhat stressful for rest of the semester with all those projects and stuff, but I haven't done anything to stressful so far, so it is about time for all that to kick in.

I've been looking for a job for the summer, but nothing has turned up yet. If that ends up being the case, I will end up playing guitar and vegging at home. Not really complaining though as it will be my last free summer ever (or at least for the rest of my working days).
