Listen up, shrimps!

The subject line is from Midnight Club II, the greatest racing game I have played since Top Gear on the SNES. I don't count Mario Kart or whatever in this category because I played that series for battle mode. I don't have any love for the Gran Turismo or Need for Speed stuff. While they are definitely quality games, I don't enjoy having super realistic cars and damage and all that. I just want some complex race courses, cool environments, and nitro boosts to make cool jumps. Midnight Club delivers on all of these requirements.

Everyone who is reading this probably already knows, but I'm moving to Austin next week. I got a job with Silicon Labs and I'll be starting work on the 22nd. What it really means is that I will be playing more racquetball and frisbee. Prepare to be dominated. By sitting on my ass for the past 3 months, I have built up large reserves of energy that will allow me to swing harder and throw farther.

It has been way too long since I've posted about Metallica - the last time was August 4, 2003. That is waaay too long a gap. The problem is that they haven't announced any Texas dates for this tour. And this tour seems to be shaping up as one their best ever as they pulled out many rarities, highlighted by Dyer's Eve. Here's to hoping the Dallas/Austin/San Antonio dates get announced sometime soon.

another note about MCII, it might not be the prettiest driving game out there (though, it doesn't lose by much) but it makes up for it by the amount of options you're allowed in getting from point A to B. Ever wonder how to beat some of the impossible races? hop on a bike and take it to the backalleys.

oh, and like the other rockstargames game, you get to run over pedestrians... which is always cool.

Yes, finding the quickest path is half the fun (and half the stress) of the game. So many different ways - it's crazy.

I'm too scared to take the bike out. I keep crashing.

the bike has it's redeeming points, even if you don't like it's tendency to send you arse over handlebars at the slightest nudge. besides the blistering speeds and the insane acceleration, there's the infinite nitros (pop a wheelie) which is always useful. Even if you do bite the bitumen the recovery time is not bad if you nitro on out of there. one thing I never got used to doing was to duck down on the seat to reduce drag to increase speed. always found it easier to pop the wheelie as the bike wasn't so touchy when you're on one wheel. tres cool nonetheless. give it a shot.

(btw: avoid the second bike if you don't like bikes to start with. it's front heavy in a weird way and you'll find yourself getting road rash every time you come off the wheelies if you're not centered and going perfectly straight for a second or two after.)

Quit telling us about that lame racing game and start telling us about how you like your new job.

Do you have a picture of me in your cube?

oh, and remind me to get this off you one day. I seem to have misplaced my disc.
